On this community alone there's access to a wealth of information, resources, ebooks and experience authors that may assist you in publishing your own book. The best thing to do for now is to get started and keep writing.
One of the books that may help you is the one I wrote entitled How to Self Publish for Profit. Additionally, BOOK PIMPING is a good read.

I've always done well in English Classes, I should have become a lawyer. lol So what will you do before the end of this year to position yourself to be the writer you envision?
You mentioned you're trying to become a writer. What's stopping you from being a writer? May I suggest visiting the forums and starting there. Read through the forum topics and do more than just leave make it a point to write a comment to the original forum post. Simply share your thoughts. Get in the habit of doing this everyday right in this community.
If you don't see a forum you can comment on this start one. Then visit the blogs and comment on the blogs already posted. Make sure you leave a question after you comment to continue the conversation. If you do this every day or week you may have enough material at the end of 3 to 6 months you'll have enough material to publish your first book.
